Flamestryke's RtK Data Research Project
I just starting playing RtK recently and I am pretty nosey so I kept restarting the game over and over again to get a feel for the different difficulty levels and orientations of the game. Not to mention I was intrigued by the random occurrences of certain loot types and wanted to see how many special items I might happen across. Any adventurer knows you have to be three quarters pack rat in order to enjoy any trek through these mysterious lands. I read a few walkthroughs up to the end of chapter 3 just to see if there were alternate ways to go about solving the game and noticed that these walkthroughs all seemed to infer that there were an unlimited number of random combat encounters within Krondor during chapters 0 - 3. Well, I like to have the strongest possible characters, but I was not finding all that many combats. After restarting so many times I thought I had noticed a pattern so I did what any red blooded adventurer would do and restarted again, thus beginning the endless search for these unlimited combat opportunities. I mean really, stronger characters and maybe a few more of those handsome items just might pop up. What I have discovered was there appears to be a set number of battles. Further research and several more restarted games have always met with the same results. It made no difference what orientation the game was set for, the exact number of combats with the exact same combatants occurred regularly. There have only been a total of 78 "random" combats during my entire stay in Krondor from chapters 0 through to the end of chapter 3. This is not counting the sewers or the set combats that can occur for game progress. If you would like to log your combat progress use the research links and print out the Room Log. This allows you to keep track of the combats, chests, and packs you will find in Krondor. The Krondor Sector maps, "stick figure" maps, show where the rooms, listed by type, are located. Hopefully you can follow them but if the little maps are too difficult to understand then just print out the Room Types page, but be warned, they are sort of blurry from resizing the screenshots and you'll need a color printer. To print the pages right click on the chart itself and select print, be certain the option "Print selected frame" is marked then send to printer. To see the results and conclusions I have drawn from this little endeavor use the links above. I have included a few tips I have not seen mention of any where else for folks to try out. Enjoy! I hope you have as much fun fooling around with this as I did, but I am playing for the first, well first hundredth time, so its all new to me. Check out the Research: How-To page for instructions on how to use the charts if necessary. |
