Packs

Packs are elusive little creatures. They pop up in Krondor every now and then.  I find for the most part, they are better than chests. Loot without the chance of a trap blowing up in your face. Unlike chests you can tell what a pack might hold if you wander into a room where a combat and pack pop up together. Simply hover the mouse pointer over the pack to get a general idea of what goodies are within. The following is a list of the types of packs you will encounter lying about the town and the general idea of their contents:

Alchemy alchemy ingredients & apparatus, recipes
Junk a few random items
Mage alchemy ingredients, scrolls, rings, wands, daggers, staffs
Rich MONEY! usually a good amount of it including gems, random items
Rogue leather armor, thief tool kits, various weapons useable by a thief
Warrior chain or plate armor, 2 handed swords, bow, arrows, other warrior related weapons

After discovering the alchemy pack name I found the only way to really distinguish it from a mage pack is that these packs have recipes and usually alchemy apparatus items in them.

There are 6 pack types, but only 5 will load per room type, making a total of 30 packs available for you in Krondor throughout Chapters 0 to 3. Some rooms will load more than one of a pack type as well. Using the log will help you keep track of what types have loaded in any particular room type. For setting the loot in packs see Setting Chest/Pack Loot. Packs run along the same line as chests and are set at the beginning of the chapter. Unfortunately you would have to go through at least 3 chests in a room type in order to get a feel for how the packs are spawning. Not really worth looking into. For the most part, packs spawn fairly nice loot and if the chests are nice its a good bet the packs will be pretty decent too.  Check out Chests for the spawn sequence of chests and packs.
